Tamlyn Edmonds is a co-founder and Managing Partner of Edmonds Marshall McMahon, the UK’s leading private prosecution law firm and a highly ranked specialist practice in civil fraud, financial crime and investigations.
Tamlyn is recognised as a leading individual in private prosecutions and serious fraud, with a practice focused on complex financial crime, asset recovery, cybercrime, corruption, criminal harassment and intellectual property crime. She regularly advises on high-value and sensitive matters where criminal enforcement, regulatory issues and civil recovery intersect.
She has particular expertise in restraint and confiscation proceedings under the Proceeds of Crime Act. This includes leading the financial investigation and successful confiscation in R v Somaia (2016), securing the largest confiscation order ever achieved in a private prosecution (£21 million).
Tamlyn acts for a broad range of clients including corporates (from SMEs to household brands), high-net-worth individuals, specialist fraud investigators and non-governmental organisations, often in complex cross-border fraud and cybercrime cases. She is frequently instructed where reputational risk, international dimensions or novel legal issues require discreet and strategic handling.
Called to the Bar in 2000, Tamlyn is a highly experienced prosecutor. Prior to founding Edmonds Marshall McMahon, she led the specialist prosecution team at the Department of Health’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), where she developed a reputation for prosecuting complex regulatory and financial crime.
She was lead lawyer in R v Gillespie and others (2011), the most significant counterfeit medicines prosecution brought by the Department of Health. The case exposed the infiltration of counterfeit, life-saving prescription medicines into the UK’s legitimate supply chain and resulted in an unprecedented Class 1 medicines recall by the MHRA.
